So you wanna camp with your baby or toddler, but are afraid to do it because of countless reasons. I feel you. I was the same way! Will my baby get too cold at night while camping? Should we rent a trailer or tent camp with our baby? Is it safe to camp with my baby and / or toddler?

Trust, I asked myself all these questions and then some!

When it comes to camping with your baby and / or toddler for the first time, you have to take in consideration how experienced you are with camping life.

My husband and I are quite the outdoors couple. We’ve back-packed 13 miles to camp at Havasupai Falls (carrying 40+ pound bags each). We hiked Machu Picchu (my husband actually purposed to me at the top of the sun gate). We’ve done hike-in spots in Big Sur and we’ve camped in some pretty desolate spots like Trona Pinnacles, with absolutely no amenities. We even camped in the middle of the Mexican desert (hot spring-hopping) where our (then) Bronco broke down.

Even with all this experience, it does not change how challenging and scary, it can be to camp with your baby and / or toddler for the first time. I mean, let’s be real, becoming a parent for the first time is terrifying; but it’s the most beautiful terrifying experience ever. Just as you learn to be a good parent, you can learn to camp with your baby.

For our first camping trip with our 9-month old baby, we opted for something we knew that would be easy. Living in Los Angeles, we chose to beach camp with our infant at Thornhill Broome. We rented a cute little vintage tailers, hitch it on to our JEEP and we were on our way.

Thornhill Broome Beach Campground is in Point Mugu State Park. We love that you can literally pitch your tent on the sand and fall asleep to the natural white-noise of the ocean. The first time I camped there, we tent camped; but this time with our baby, we trailer camped.
