heart shaped avocado toast valentines day toddler meal

My two-year old, Victoria, LOVES avocado toast. It’s her toddler meal of choice. She has it for breakfast, and sometimes for lunch. It’s not only delicious, but it’s also full of nutrition and seriously so easy to make. For Valentine’s Day, I decided to get some heart-shaped cookie cutters and spice up her usual avocado toast with some festive flair.

I always share toddler meal ideas on my Instagram Stories. For Valentine’s Day, I have been experimenting with some Valentine’s Day-inspired recipes from Victoria’s existing favorite toddler meals. While sharing some of my toddler food creations in Stories, I received so much positive feedback that I decided to create a step-be-step recipe to show all parents how to make Victoria’s favorite avocado toast. Which is now coined “Heartbeet Avocado Toast.”

How To Make Heartbeet Avocado Toast

This Valentine’s Day avocado toast is seriously so easy to make! And best of all, it will make your kiddo feel extra special on Valentine’s Day. If your child isn’t a fan of avocado, simply substitute the avocado for something they love — peanut butter, jelly, butter, etc.

What You Will Need

  • 1 smashed avocado
  • 1-2 slices of your child’s favorite bread (depends on how much your kid eats). We love Dave’s Killer Bread.
  • Everything But The Bagel Sesame Seasoning from Trader Joes
  • Strawberries
  • 1 Beet (ready-to-eat) — I get these from Whole Foods, Trader Joes and / or Ralphs / Kroger. Make sure they’re plain beets with no vinegar and / or seasoning.
  • Heart-shaped cookie cutters — love the shape of these ones!
  • Heart-shaped fruit and veggies cutters — this entire set is amazing and kid-friendly. It comes with so many different shapes, molds, sizes and even silicone cupcake liners. You pretty much don’t have to purchase the aforementioned heart-shaped cookie cutter if you opt for this.

Make The Avocado Toast

In the following order: (so the avocado stays fresh and green, and the toast still has a slight warmth.

  1. Use a heart-shaped fruit cutter to poke some hearts in those strawberries. I like to then cut them in half to make 2 or 3 hearts since the fruit cutters can be pretty deep.
  2. Use that same heart-shaped fruit cutter to make your heartbeat (aka heart beet!). I also slice this up a few times to make multiple hearts.
  3. Lightly toast your bread so it’s toasty, but tender for tiny, new mouths.
  4. While bread is getting toasty, smash that avocado up! Add some Everything But The Bagel Seasoning and mix it up with the avo.
  5. Grab a heart-shaped cookie cutter and puncture a heart in the toast!
  6. Spread the avocado love on the toast. Add a couple more dashes of the seasoning for looks.
  7. Plate however you like, add the heart beet to the center of the heart-shaped toast, and add the heart-shaped strawberries and voila!
  8. I added an adorable chocolate Valentine’s rose to Victoria’s plate. I bought a Valentines’ Day variety box of chocolates from Trader Joes.

P.s. Don’t let those scraps go to waste! Mama or daddy can eat them.
