War is an absolute horrible experience. Most of us in our cozy American bubbles have never experienced it. Most of us have never woke up to bombs. Most of us have never seen war torn cities left in pieces. Most of us have never had to flee for our lives.

The idea of children in Ukraine having to go through this tragic bull shit absolutely breaks my heart.

I recall visiting family in Peru in the late 80s with my mother and waking up to bombs from domestic terrorist attacks. I remember it so vividly, my mother grabbing me and taking shelter under the bed. The bombs were loud and jolting. I was 8 or 9 years old, but that traumatic memory still remains clear in my my head.

While my childhood experience is nowhere near what children and families are enduring right now in Ukraine, I fully recognize how it affected me. Imagine what the severity of the Russian attacks on Ukraine and how it’s affecting those children for the long run. Imagine how many kids won’t survive if allies don’t take action fast. Now think of what kind of world you want your own children and loved ones to thrive in.

Below are numerous ways you can donate to and support the people of Ukraine. A little goes a long way. If you are not in a place to donate monetarily, there are other ways you can support Ukraine that don’t involve money.

Customize as needed:

I write to you on this grim day to ask that you move swiftly to act against the unprovoked and unjustified war Russia is waging on Ukraine. As your constituent, I ask that you speak for me in the halls of Congress and say that we will not tolerate this violent assault on Ukrainian sovereignty.

Impose the strictest sanctions possible, targeting the Russian elite. Send as much humanitarian, financial, and military aid to Ukraine as you can. Invest now in the resilience of the Ukrainian people, whose fragile democracy is at grave risk of failing under the pressure of this horrific assault.

The United States provided security assurances to Ukraine in 1994 with the signing of the Budapest Memorandum. As a constituent, I request your support for Ukraine in Congress, to uphold our obligations by suppressing the Kremlin’s destructive actions against Ukraine.”
